Brockley vs Tuddenham
By Alex McCaffrey
18 points in the rain at Tuddenham
Brockely, sponsored by A14 Tyres, made the short trip across to old friends Tuddenham for a 40 overs reduced game. Having won the toss, Fisher and McCaffrey put on their waterproofs and swam out to the middle. A fast outfield and generous fielding helped both batsman pass 50 and guide Brockley to 145-0 off 23, with Fischer hitting 4 4s in his first 9 balls!!
Fischer then decided to have a go as team cameraman and was caught and bowled by Thomas (2-50) for 66. McCaffrey was joined by Jones and together took the score to 192 with McCaffrey eventually falling for 98 after trying to hit Shimmons (2-71) into Mildenhall
Rich Jones looked in good form and hit 23, with Firth causing Tuddenham fielders to shotgun not having to go into their neighbours garden on the hunt for cricket balls. Who would live next to a cricket ground?
Hard running from skip Huffer and vice skip Jeffries helped Brockley close on 248-6 off 40 overs.
After tea, Sykes junior (2-37) and Geeves junior (2-45) bowled the first 20 overs straight, with solid fielding and backing up reducing Tuddenham to 59-3 at drinks and requiring 190 from the last 20. Jeffries, Meekings and returning Badger Ed Beeton kept things tidy as the Tuddenham batsman struggled to keep up with the rate. Cross and Pettit top scoring with 35 and 31 as the hosts finished on 170-6
A great game victory for Brockley, and good from both sides to avoid going off in the persistent rain falling most of the afternoon.
Brockley 248-6 McCaffrey 98, Thomas 2-50
Tuddenham 170-6 Cross 35, Firth 2-37
Brockley win by 79 runs
